FIRST DEPUTY COMMISSIONER JOHN F. CREMENS JR. RETIRES

First Deputy Commissioner John F. Cremens Jr. officially retired on January 4, 2008 following a distinguished career with the Massachusetts Probation Service which spanned more than three decades.

Cremens first joined the Massachusetts Probation Service in 1976 as a Probation Officer in the Suffolk Division of the Superior Court Department. He was then appointed Assistant Chief Probation Officer in 1983. In 1990, Cremens was appointed Chief Probation Officer at Suffolk Superior Court, joining the Commissioner’s Office as First Deputy in 1998.

As First Deputy Commissioner, Cremens was instrumental in the operation of the Massachusetts Probation Service. In addition to his many assignments, he played a pivotal role in the implementation of MassCourts Lite . Cremens coordinated the efforts in introducing the computer application to Trial Court employees and was essential in the integration of probation and court case information systems.

“John has served the Massachusetts Probation Service with unwavering dedication and commitment not only to the profession but to individual Probation Officers,” said Probation Commissioner John J. O’Brien. “Given his lengthy career as an officer, John always brought a practical and realistic approach to discussions. We wish John and his family a healthy and enjoyable retirement. He will be greatly missed by all.”
